American Nature is an exploration of the natural world and the limits of our perception. During a series of cross-country road trips I used a full-spectrum digital camera to document the remaining areas of protected American wilderness in both visible and invisible light. The photographs show the world as it exists outside of our perceptual abilities, blurring the boundaries between the known and unknowable. The uncanny familiarity of these altered iconic American landscapes explores our relationship to and understanding of the natural world and the uncertainty of its future in the midst of unprecedented anthropomorphic change.
